This was a strange one. I actually ended up researching the term ‘news’. Could he say it at that time? I don’t care too much about historical accuracy, but I was ending up fretting and wondering about it. So: The word “News” was invented in the 14th century, and they’re in early 15th, so I suppose he could say the word… When the town crier or messenger would come in to announce what was new, it because plural; the news.
The way I see it I’m going to write him speaking normally, as if to say ‘this is him speaking normally for his time‘. He’s also speaking Middle German, so yeah, not going to worry too much about historical accuracy of speech. I’m not a history major, not an English major.
